Even since Max Brooks' World War Z there have been zombie novels ranging from interesting, to humorous, to just plain bad (ly written). Only a few can be called good. Those that are tend to have complex plots within a rapidly tiring genre. This novel is a cut above good. It is damn good. Written in vignettes with a large cast of characters Survivors of the Apocalypse is written in the present tense adding to a sense of urgency throughout the novel. This type of story is for those of us who enjoyed the graphic novel Walking Dead. There is very little that is superfluous. Characters know only as much as the reader...and sometimes not even that much. There is compassion and cruelty. Most of all there is a sense of survival...and the question...at what cost?
I'm looking forward to a sequel.
