I have read all three of his novels in this series and his books are amazing. I start reading and cannot put them down. You will find yourself caught up in the stories and feeling for the characters. Its a must read for anyone interested. In zombies or the apocalypse.

Excellent read (from a skeptic)

This review is from Survivors of the Apocalypse (Kindle Edition)

Ok. So I do not like the zombie genre. It all seems so "been there, done that." I have not even seen a single episode of Walking Dead. On top of that, I generally do not like anthologies. This book was an exception on both counts. Crisp writing. Human stories. And an author that clearly knows his stuff when it comes to survival, preparedness, the military, and all things Zombie. Excellent read. And I was skeptical going in.

wonderful journey

This review is from: Survivors of the Apocalypse (Kindle Edition)

I enjoyed this book and the other by this author. My rating would be a 4 and 1/2 stars. My only complaint was the story would jump through several unrelated characters. When I returned back to a character I had often had to jump back and review what had happened.

Characters and story line well developed, I would like the chapters about individual characters to be consecutive or at least close to one another. This will not stop me from reading the next book. His writing style was smooth, descriptive, and uniquely eloquent. Please keep writing sir! Your words and story is never forced. I have read over 400 books in this genre in the last year, yes I am a readaholic who loves zombie and apocalyptic fiction.

This author was a great find and in my top 20 out of 400. If you like this genre, read O'brien, Milles, Chesser, etc..Buy it you will be emersed in his story and hooked quickly. I was excited when this second book came out and bought it immediately. Keep writing

Does the world need more zompoc novels?

This review is from: Survivors of the Apocalypse, Volume 1

"With all of the zompoc novels in the market today, it's hard sometimes to know which ones are worth reading and which ones aren't. Here's my guide distilled to one sentence: If it's about the people instead of the zombies, it's worth reading.

Survivors is worth reading, not only because it's a well-written book, but because the characters are real people with real emotions dealing with situations beyond their understanding. Even with their military and law-enforcement backgrounds, they all fight to keep their heads above water while trying to adapt their training to an unthinkable situation.

I read this book in one sitting. It's that good.

This isn't your run-of-the-mill zompoc book. These stories are about the people, and the underlying themes of community, respect and survival add a depth to them that you don't often find in zompoc. The zombies are presented as the new reality. These stories are about how real people learn to deal with it.

My favorites were "The Last Mission" and "Pork Chop Jones", but they're all very good.

So to answer my own question, does the world need more zompoc novels?

Maybe, maybe not.

Did the world need this one?

Absolutely"

"this book was a totally new aspect of the zombie genre. You could not drift into the old style of zombie, attack , death , bite , new zombie.

this book kept you thinking, wondering, speculating.. I will keep my eye on this author and you should also!"

BRAVO!!!!!

This review is from: Survivors of the Apocalypse (Kindle Edition)

"One of the things I loved about World War Z was how the accounts were written. This was perfect! Every detail made sense because all the zombies were alike. One of the reasons I don't like anthologies is that the stories don't connect. This did. From how it started, to how it was fought. I really loved the fact that the zombies were "blind." After taking Anatomy and Physiology in school I always thought due to lack of blood flow and the cataracts, zombies would follow through hearing and perhaps smell alone. So this was my dream book. People looking out for people was another part I loved. It seemed to have the best part of most of the zombie books I loved mixed into one. I was really thrilled to see Jackie from Zombipalooza in there. She's the best and I adore her. I even chuckled when the author put "himself" into one of the stories. PERFECT! Can't wait to read more."

A Cut Above The Rest

This review is from: Survivors of the Apocalypse (Kindle Edition)

"Even since Max Brooks' World War Z there have been zombie novels ranging from interesting, to humorous, to just plain bad (ly written). Only a few can be called good. Those that are tend to have complex plots within a rapidly tiring genre. This novel is a cut above good. It is damn good. Written in vignettes with a large cast of characters Survivors of the Apocalypse is written in the present tense adding to a sense of urgency throughout the novel. This type of story is for those of us who enjoyed the graphic novel Walking Dead. There is very little that is superfluous. Characters know only as much as the reader...and sometimes not even that much. There is compassion and cruelty. Most of all there is a sense of survival...and the question...at what cost?

I'm looking forward to a sequel."

One of the types of books I do not like are anthologies. It seems once you get into the story it's over and you have to read something extremely different. I was expecting this to happen when I started reading Survivors of the Apocalypse by K. R. Chin and place this book on the Recht List. I was happily surprised by how it was written. The author wrote different stories but based on the same zombie apocalypse. Each story was about a certain point, beginning, middle and end. Also they were from different groups and how they responded and acted during the crisis. From the making of the disease to the world coming back to start again, these stories let us know what people would do to try and live again. Not just exist or hide. Fear gave way to determination and it was no longer us fearing the zombies but them fearing us. One part I found very funny was the mention of Jackie Chin and Zombiepalooza. Love her radio show and so seeing her name in the book was something else. Months later I found out that K.R. Chin is Jackie's husband. Bravo for the kudos he gave his wife. So read this book and enjoy the stories of survival in the same universe.
